I know she's tall

but does my daughter really look like she should be in school?

This morning we went for a walk in the village and someone made a comment about her not being in school. She's only two and a half! Education (not school) isn't even compulsory for her until September 2012. And if random strangers are making comments now, what is it going to like in a few years time?

I can't believe she's 2 1/2 already!! She looks like an average 2 1/2 year old to me! She's so adorable!

I have heard that in England it's virtually unheard of to homeschool... is that true? If so, I can only imagine the kinds of comments a family would get upon choosing that, and a child actually looking old enough to be in compulsary schools.

I think home educating is much rarer here than it seems to be in the US. There is no compulsory registration here unless you have had your child in state education and then taken them out so they don't know how many there are. The most recent review of home education in England (the Badman Report) says there are 20 thousand registered but there could be in excess of 80 thousand so that's about 0.3-1.3% of the school age population vs 3-4% in the US.
